In this editorial, I decided to create the story of Barbara (Barbie). A woman who's getting ready at home for her civil wedding. She's a complete Anti-Bride, she doesn't follow the norm. She puts every little bit of herself into her outfits, her wedding included.
This editorial was very influenced by Greta Gerwig's new movie: Barbie, not only by the colour scheme but also for the message it sends regarding the patriarchy. So it was not a coincidence that we decided to leave this bride's partner out of the picture (literally). Another big influence for this editorial was Taylor Swift's album "Speak Now".
What's an Anti-Bride?
An "anti-bride" is a term used to describe a bride who rejects or subverts traditional aspects of wedding culture. Anti-brides often opt for unconventional wedding attire, venues, or ceremonies that defy traditional norms. They may prioritize authenticity, individuality, and personal expression over adherence to traditional wedding expectations. Anti-brides may choose alternative wedding styles such as bohemian, minimalist, or themed weddings, and may also avoid traditional gender roles and expectations associated with weddings. Overall, the term "anti-bride" reflects a departure from mainstream wedding conventions and a desire to create a wedding experience that aligns more closely with the couple's values and preferences.
